2016 NFL Draft Approaches

One of the biggest events in professional sports that does not involve playing a game, the NFL Draft, begins April 28th and ends April 30th.  For a little over two days the sporting world will turn its attention to Chicago, Illinois, and watch as seven rounds of draft picks are chosen by the thirty-two NFL teams. When the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled, over 250 college football players will have been chosen.  From there, contracts will be signed, rookie training camps will happen, players will be cut, players will be picked up off of waivers, the regular NFL preseason camps will begin, more players will be cut, more picked up off of waivers and it all culminates in the first game of the 2016 season in late August.

Who is expected to go early in the Draft?  Chances are the top ten picks will come from the following group:

  • Laremy Tunsil, OT, Mississippi

  • Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State

  • Jalen Ramsey, CB, Florida State

  • Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State

  • Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA

  • DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

  • Jared Goff, QB, California

  • Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Ohio State

  • Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida

  • Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame

  • Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson

  • Laquon Treadwell, WR, Mississippi

  • Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State

  • A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama

  • Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama

Of course there are sure to be surprises, little known players making a splash in the Draft and going on to great NFL careers, and there are sure to be busts, big name players that never seem to take it to the next level, but one thing is for certain:  the popularity of the NFL guarantees we will all be watching to see what transpires.
