What To Look For in a Real Estate Agent
Perhaps the title of this article aims a little low: it should say “what to look for in a GREAT real estate agent,” because that’s what you deserve, right?
So, how do you know? There are millions of them out there. In your particular area there are most likely hundreds; in big cities, thousands. How do you choose? What criteria do you use when making your decision, a decision that will be one of the most important, financially, in your life?
Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a real estate agent:
What neighborhood do you specialize in?
Will you be working with that agent primarily or with other associates?
Have you sold other homes in the neighborhood I am interested in?
How many other buyers and seller are you currently representing?
Are you a full-time agent or is this a part-time job for you?
What is your background in this business? How much experience do you have?
Are you a broker as well as an agent?
Can you give me references?
Do not hesitate to ask any of these questions. You are looking for experience. You are looking for experience in the area you are looking at. You want someone who will work full-time to get the job done, and you want someone who has experienced success in the past.
Do not rush into this decision of choosing the right real estate agent. It is much too important a decision to be hurried into, and the extra time you take in deciding on an agent may well save you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
