The NHL Embarks On A New Season
Relocation is a Way of Life in NHL
Question: what is the only professional sport that plays from October to April and involves players from twenty-two different nations? If you said the National Hockey League you would be absolutely correct, and the new 2011-2012 season has begun.
Thirty teams started play this week in an 82-game schedule that will end with two teams vying for the Stanley Cup and bragging rights as the best of the best. Thirty teams, each with 23 active players, all playing for the trophy first won by Montreal in 1893 and won last year by the Boston Bruins.
We may not know who is going to win the league championship but what we do know is there are 690 active players on teams right now and not all of them will be on those teams when the season ends. The reality of professional sports is that trades happen, injuries happen, free agency signings happen, and the team you begin play with may just be one stop for a player during a regular season. The average NHL player will switch teams five or six times during a rather short career. Injuries and the wear and tear of a hockey season means that players generally will only play four or five years in the League, and that means quite a bit of relocation in that short time span.
And folks, we aren’t talking a relocation of a few miles like the average American can expect. We are talking a relocation that could easily involve thousands of miles AND a completely different country. Twenty-two of those thirty teams are in the United States and eight of the teams are in Canada, so one day a player could be playing in Anaheim and the next day be playing in and for Winnipeg.
Needless to say a relocation like that involves some serious planning; unfortunately, players who switch teams have two days tops to move, so the relocation planning and execution must be handled by loved ones since the player involved is busy, well, playing. And that’s when the pros at SportsRelocation.com come to the rescue.
We are in the relocation business. We sit down with the client, listen to their needs, and then handle all aspects of the relocation. We arrange transportation, we arrange the moving of possessions and vehicles, and we arrange for short-term and long-term housing AND handle the sales of previous real estate if that is called for. All the player has to do is play his sport and his family can rest assured that all the details are being handled, allowing them to concentrate on packing their belongings and joining their husband/father in the new city.
A relocation of this magnitude is difficult for all concerned; it involves a major uprooting and starting over in a strange new city. We at SportsRelocation.com have been handling such relocations for quite some time now and we have hundreds of professional athletes as satisfied customers. Give us a call and find out what we can do for you.
