SportsRelocation.com - The Ultimate Sports Star (or Fan) Home! - Athlete Real Estate
We’ve written about what celebrities want in a home, but if you’re a professional athlete, you may have a couple of special amenities in mind that other stars wouldn’t consider, like a regulation-sized football field, batting cage and, of course, personal gym. With the college football season just around the corner, the NFL preseason heating up and baseball looking forward to some exciting pennant races, we’ve taken the best pieces from different star athletes’ homes and combine them to create the ultimate sports star’s (or fan’s) home.
Ray Allen’s Media Room (below)
If you’re an athlete, then you’re constantly watching replays or cheering on your fellow star athletes so having an enormous big screen TV is a necessity. For our dream home, we’ll take the media room from Ray Allen’s former home, listed on the Carnation real estate market for $3.7 million. During Allen’s stint as a Sonic, the basketball player enjoyed his sports coverage in an eight-seat, private screening room with surround sound and wet bar. Other athlete-friendly amenities in this home include a putting green and full-size basketball/tennis court.
David Wright’s Living Room (and Pool Table) (below)
The New York Mets’ third baseman picked up this piece of Flatiron real estate for $6.1 million in 2006, and spent some time — and money — making it his “ultimate bachelor pad.” His most notable renovation was having a crane lift a hot tub up to his 4,100-square-foot penthouse. What really screams athlete’s home, however, is Wright’s living room, complete with a pool table, flat screen TV, enormous fish tank and soaring ceilings.
Laird Hamilton’s Gym (below)
Whether you’re a professional athlete, up-and-coming sports star, or just a dedicated fan, you know staying in shape is a requirement. Big-wave surf king Laird Hamilton and his wife, professional volleyball player Gabrielle Reece, kept their tanned bods toned in their personal gym in their Hawaii home. They listed the home for $2,750,000, dumbbells and all, after they upgraded to a bigger place next door. We’re guessing the new place has a larger gym.
Adrian Beltre’s Batting Cage (below)
Set some more time aside for batting practice and maybe you’ll be able to hit a .276 batting average like Texas Ranger Adrian Beltre. When Beltre played for the LA Dodgers, the baseball player lived on a 4-acre estate in Bradbury, CA that not only has the standard celebrity amenities like a basketball court, tennis court, and infinity pool, but it also has an indoor batting cage. Beltre listed the home for $19.8 million, six years after he left L.A. for the Rangers.
Chuck Liddel’s BBQ (below)
UFC Champion “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell’s former home in San Luis Obispo is pretty standard as far as celebrity homes go: 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, gourmet kitchen and pool. But the star feature of his 4,600-square-foot home is undoubtedly the outdoor kitchen complete with state-of-the art built-in barbecue. Perfect for beefing up for the next fight or perhaps throwing on some burgers for the next Ultimate Fight Night get-together. Either way, it’s a necessary amenity in the supreme sports home.
Anna Kournikova’s Pool (below)
Adding the tennis court from Anna Kournikova’s home in Florida to the ultimate sports home seems like a no-brainer, but the property doesn’t include one. The patio, pool and spa, however, is perfect for relaxing tired athlete’s muscles and soaking up some sun. Her waterfront home is listed on the Miami Beach real estate market for $9.4 million; even with low mortgage rates, that makes the estimated mortgage payment a high $53,887 a month. The Sunset Island home also has high ceilings, granite counter-tops and a two-story guest house.
Walter Jones’ Football Field (below)
Last but not least, what’s the ultimate athlete home without a place to toss the pigskin around? Rather than finding a place in the backyard for some touch football, we’ll take the regulation-sized football field in Walter Jones’ home, listed for $3.5 million on the Harvest real estate market. In addition to the football field, the Alabama home has nearly 14,000 square feet of living space, a game room, home theater and private gym.
