SportsRelocation.com - 2011 NBA Draft Is Rapidly Approaching June 23rd, 2011
June 23rd is right around the corner and that means the newest NBA millionaires will be drafted live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
This is an interesting year in the NBA draft because many analysts are saying that this isn’t a very deep pool of college talent, which means that scouting is going to play a huge part in selections. Most teams will be relying heavily on the combines, private workouts, scouting reports, and a gut-feeling for intangibles when looking at this current crop of NBA hopefuls.
The consensus choice for the number one pick seems to be Kyrie Irving, the freshman point guard out of Duke. The Cleveland Cavaliers have that first pick and it would seem a pretty sure bet that Irving will be distributing the ball for the Cavaliers next season.
After Irving it is a toss-up who will be picked next. It could well be Derrick Williams out of Arizona, the 6-8 forward with the sweet shooting touch. Maybe it will be Brandon Knight, the 6-3 point guard from Kentucky or Kemba Walker out of Connecticut.
Several European players are considered solid picks in the top twenty. Enes Kantner from Turkey, Jonas Valanciunas from Lithuania, Jan Vesely, or Donatas Motiejunas of Italy are all being considered for first round picks.
Whoever is chosen in the first round will be looking at instant wealth as their years of work and sacrifice will be rewarded with multi-million dollar contracts.
Of course, lurking on the near-horizon is the possibility of a work-stoppage similar to the one currently crippling the NFL, so there are no guarantees that next season will even happen no matter who is chosen in this year’s draft. But it should be fun to watch nevertheless.
