Reflections on Pro Athlete Trades

I thought I would share some personal reflections for a moment, reflections about the personal nature of working with professional athletes and their families during tough relocation times.

Over the years I have assisted countless players and coaches from the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL with their real estate and relocation needs.  It is an emotional roller-coaster for pro athletes and their families as they move from city to city.  Not only that, but in many instances a trade comes as a complete shock to the players, many times catching them completely unsuspecting.

During phone conversations and face-to-face meetings with these players and their families, the shock and concern is visible on their faces and in the tone of their voices.  Make no mistake about it: relocation is a difficult process no matter what business you are in or what sport you play. Once you are established in a city your family settles in, the children make friends and get comfortable in their schools, and then a trade happens and that lovely life is turned upside down.

I have had the opportunity and honor to befriend many of these athletes and I understand their frustrations; I also recognize that this is all part of the business and it is my job to make this relocation the smoothest and less stressful process possible.
