Professional Teams Always Making Deals

There is somewhat of a misconception about professional sports. Many people think that once the season is over there are few transactions happening. Because our business is helping professional athletes and entertainers with their real estate and relocation we are always watching the transaction wire to see what is happening.

You might be surprised to learn that this past weekend there were 24 transactions by NFL teams even though their season has been over for a good three months and training camps don’t start up for another two months.  Players are constantly being traded, picked up on waivers or signed as free agents no matter what the month.  It is the nature of the business and the possibility of relocation is always in the back of the mind of any professional athlete.

Along that same line professional baseball saw 52 transactions occur during this same weekend, a fairly high number since teams are usually fairly settled in their lineups at this point of the season.  However, as previously stated, teams are always looking to improve, upgrade or fill in holes caused by injuries.  Now that the AAA teams have begun their seasons there will be a constant shuttling of players back and forth to the Majors and this will continue right up until September.

So while all of us were having barbecues and playing golf, 76 professional athletes were informed that it was time to pack their bags and head to another city where they will resume their career for another team. 76 athletes began the relocation process by making preparations to transport vehicles and obtain short-term housing in their new city.  While the rest of us were playing catch with our kids and watching the playoffs on tv, 76 athletes were considering their options for selling their existing homes and informing their own families that dad has to leave soon.
