Best Time of Year to Sell Luxury Real Estate
Is winter really a bad time to sell luxury real estate?
We at Sportsrelocation.com were recently asked that question. This is one of those real estate “truths” that seems to have taken on a life of its own over the years, so let’s get it out in the open and look at the real “truth.”
Several studies, the most recent by Redfin, show that listings seem to do a bit better on the market from January to March than they do during the summer or fall. The best time to sell is still the spring, but the rest of the survey is most likely a huge surprise for many homeowners.
From 2010 to 2013, the average share of homes that sold above list price during January, February, and March ranged from eleven to thirteen percent. That percentage increased by about two percent during April, May and June, and then slumped during the summer and fall.
Remember that these are statistical averages but still, statistics do not lie, so they are worth noting. The other thing worth noting is that real estate sales still come down to people selling to people, and a good piece of real estate when matched with a motivated buyer, will sell no matter what time of year it is.
