First Round Picks Prepare For New Lifestyle
April 28th is finally here and that means the first round of the NFL Draft is underway. As you well know, first round picks can look forward to guaranteed contracts and signing bonuses in the millions meaning a considerable change in lifestyle for those chosen in the first round.
This is one of the more interesting drafts in recent memory. Free agency has been put on hold because of the labor dispute, so there can’t be any trades of existing players during the draft and teams have to change their strategy based on that fact.
One thing is certain: the lives of the following players are about to change drastically. Soon to come is relocation to a new city, purchases or leases of new homes or condos, an entirely new lifestyle about to unfold. Twenty-one year old kids will suddenly be faced with enormous decisions, will move away from the home they grew up in, and will be inundated with requests and demands from a hundred different directions.
The past is littered with professional athletes who did not make wise decisions or were given poor financial advice from friends and advisors. The stories of the rich and famous who have declared bankruptcy have filled the newspapers in recent years, stories of the once mighty having fallen on serious financial difficulties. Names like Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Sheryl Swoopes, Lawrence Taylor, Scottie Pippen, Latrell Sprewell, and Rocket Ismael serve as a reminder that no matter how much money you make in professional sports it is quite possible to lose it all without good guidance in all things financial.
That is why we at SportsRelocation.com are in business. In the past we have helped quite a few “instant millionaires” with decisions about their future. We have helped them move to a new city, helped them lease and buy homes, helped them with insurance and banking decisions, helped them with travel plans and obtaining the best financial deals. That is what we have done in the past and that is what we will do in the future. In other words, we are the professionals who help professionals in all things relating to relocation.
Some of our newest clients could very well be on the following list of the first ten NFL draft picks for 2011:
